The Port Authority LSW2870 is a women's crewneck cardigan made from a 56/29/15 blend of cotton, nylon, and acrylic. Each fiber carries part of the load: cotton gives the sweater a natural hand and breathability, nylon adds abrasion resistance and stretch recovery so the knit does not go slack at the elbows and cuffs, and acrylic brings warmth and shape retention. That combination is what makes it machine washable, whereas a wool cardigan would need hand washing or dry cleaning and would feel in a standard cycle.

Fully-fashioned seams are the construction details worth knowing. Rather than knitting a flat panel and cutting it to shape, the panels are knit to size and joined, so there are no cut edges inside to fray or bulk up at the seam, which gives a cleaner interior finish and lets the cardigan hold its shape through repeated wear. The button front opens all the way down, so it layers over a shirt or blouse and comes off without pulling over the head, and dyed-to-match faux horn buttons carry a natural material look while blending into the body color rather than standing out.
