BA519 Big Accessories Slouch Beanie

The Big Accessories BA519 is a slouch beanie knit from 100% acrylic. Acrylic is the workhorse fiber for cold-weather knits because it does what wool does without the drawbacks: it holds warmth and carries a soft, wool-like hand, but it takes dye brightly, does not scratch the forehead, and washes without the felting and shrinking that ruin a wool beanie after one hot cycle. Color stays true through a season rather than dulling with each wash.

At 10 1/2 inches, the knit runs longer than a close-fitting beanie, and that extra fabric is the whole design. Left as is, it gathers behind the crown for the relaxed slouch look; pulled down, the same length drops over the ears when the temperature falls. Six top seams meet at the crown, shaping the knit to follow the head rather than hanging as a straight tube. Construction is single layer, which keeps the beanie light and easy to fold into a jacket pocket, though a single layer breathes more wind through than a lined build would. Decoration works best across the front brim, where the fabric lies flat instead of gathering.
