    My son 12, is on the small side: 54" tall. He needs shorts that fit his small waist. These shorts were perfect. The elastic goes all the way around the waist and fits snugly, but not so that it binds. I got a size M for him. He normally wears a size M or 10/11. I also look for shorts with pockets, so he has a place to put his tissues or house key, etc. While lightweight, I did not find that these were "thin". These shorts landed at the middle of my sons knees..

    Great, lightweight shorts for my 9 year old. Good for outdoor play, tennis (pockets), etc.

    Run a bit small and fabric is very thin. They are fine for my active son but not sure if they will wear well because of quality of fabric.
